How do I submit a new Link (WebLink)?
Web Links (Links) are useful when you want to share with others a great internet resource with other members of the Gateway VW Club. Some good links include: Other VW clubs, VW events, or items for sale. The key is the content is really stored elsewhere on the internet and there is no need to reproduce it on this website - just provide a link the user can follow to find the content.

Along the left edge of the website, find the link named Submit Link. You will be presented with this form:

Complete the form as follows:

Link Category - Select a category from the existing choices where you think the link should fit. If you do not find an good match, select the nearest match. Send a private message to an administrator that you think a new category should be created for links like the one you are submitting. The link will not appear on the club website until a web-content administrator reviews your submission and approves it. The web-content administrator may select a different category or create another category.

Link Name - Give the link a brief name.

Link URL - Find the internet website you are trying link. When you are viewing that website - highlight the Address bar of your browser and hit control-c (windows) or command-c (mac) to copy the address into your paste buffer. Then return to this field and click within the field. Hit control-v (windows) or command-v (mac) to copy the address from the paste buffer into this field. The address should appear. The address should start with http://. If you do not see this code at the beginning. Simply type it at the beginning, leaving the rest of the address alone.

Link Description - Provide a brief narrative describing the usefulness of this website and summarize it for the user so they can expect what to find. Be brief but informative.

How do I submit a new News Item?

News articles are postings of information to make announcements or provide information where the message should be given to the user with starting times and ending times. If the information is permanent, you should consider submitting an Article instead. Once an news article is submitted, the web-content administrator will review the news submission and determine the start and end times of the message. The web software used on this site will automatically display the news article when the time comes and automatically remove the article when it is expired. For instance, a news article can be submitted announcing an upcoming meeting - it is only valid after the previous meeting has occurred and it should be removed from the site (automatically) when the event occurs.

Along the left edge of the website, find the link named Submit News. You will be presented with this form:

Complete the form as follows:

Subject - Write a headline for the news article.

Category - Select a category for the news article from the existing list. If a match cannot be made - select the closest match. Private message the administrator and advise that a new category for news should be created.

News - Type in the content of your news submission. Include any links, google maps or photos in the article. The administrator will create the additional html tags around the content so it will be presented properly. Further, the web-content administrator will provide beginning and ending dates for the submission. You may type the dates in the message. The administrator will assign the beginning/ending dates in the administrators form and remove your notes from the content of the news submission.

Finally, click Submit News or Preview News. Preview News shows how the news article will display to the end-user. Submit News shows releases the news article for a web-content administrator to review. The web-content administrator must review the content and approve the news you just submitted. If you do not see your news article on a timely basis posted on the site, contact and administrator about the submission.

How do I submit a new Photo?
Photos are an exciting way to show others a clear picture of something you want to share. With the advent of digital photography, anyone with a computer can easily publish their favorite photos on the club's website.

PLEASE READ REGARDING PHOTOS

1. Please do not upload copyrighted material to the website. This would include scans of books, magazines and newspapers. We do not need the hassle.

2. The size of the photo should not exceed 300Kb. Modern cameras usually create images between 2 and 8 Mb. 2 Mb is much larger than 300 Kb. (Kb is 1000 characters, Mb is 1,000,000 characters). Thus you need to re-save re-crop your photos so they are less than 300 Kb and the dimensions of the photo do not exceed 1800 (horizontal) x 1600 (vertical) pixels.

Most camera programs include the tools complete this. In iPhoto, simply Edit the photo and crop the photo to make it interesting. Then, choose File, Export. Choose Scale Images no Larger and enter 600 in the Width field. Then Export. This will create photos which will easily fit within the constraints of the upload process and keep the photos interesting.

3. To save photos from the web and upload them to the site, right click on the photo (within your internet browser) and click Save Image. This will save it on your computer. Then upload the image using the steps below. On a Mac, System, hold the command button and click on the image (within your browser).

Along the left edge of the website, find the link named Submit Photo. You will be presented with this form:

Complete the form as follows:

Title - Write a headline for the photo which best describes its photo.

Description - Type in some narrative for your photo. The description can be multiple sentences.

Image - Click on the Choose File and browse to the photo stored on your storage medium (hard drive, cd-rom, or memory card).

Album - Select an Album for the photo from the existing list. If a match cannot be made - select the closest match. Private message the administrator and advise that a new album for the photo should be created. A web- administrator can create a new photo album if your photo does not fit the existing albums or create a new album for multiple photos you may submit.

Finally, click Submit Photo. Submit Photo uploads and releases the photo for a web-content administrator to review. The web-content administrator must review the content and approve photo you just submitted. If you do not see your photo on a timely basis, contact and administrator about the photo(s).
