October 25th Illinois/Missouri Cruise
Club EventsDate: 25-October-29
Time: 9:00 am
Place: Melvin Price Lock and Dam

This is the cruise that was mentioned during the August meeting. Please notify Steven Pautz if you are planning on attending. You can click on the Contact Me link to the left to send me a message. I will tally the names for the club and forward to Dave who is putting together this cruise.

Here's the preliminary detail. I'll probably modify some of the smaller details but the date, time and places should be good.

"Dave's Park-to-park Cruise, Sunday October 25th.

Meeting at the Melvin Price Lock-and-dam in East Alton, Il around 9:00 am.
Hang out for a while then we start the 55-ish mile cruise over the Clark Bridge, then onto Rt 94 cruising all the way to Klondike Park (just past Defiance and just before Augusta) to hang out and talk about VW's. It's kinda' like a show-and-shine but with a cruise in the middle.

This is open to all VW clubs or individual 'dub nuts who want to cruise.

We'll be driving well within the speed limit and enjoying the cruise. There's a blend of rural roads and city driving so be sure to have your car in decent running condition.

There's no food at either park. Stop somewhere along the route for food, gas and toilet. I might reserve a pavilion at Klondike Park if there's a need.

I'll have some prizes and we may have some participant judging but don't expect too much. This is just a low-stress, social event where we enjoy driving our 'dubs.

FWIW, Even though I'm more active with the H2O dubbers, I'll be driving my air-cooler."

Let me know if you need more info.

We're still a go on this! Lemme know if you have any questions.

Is the date supposed to be 25 October 09? or the 29th? smiley I'm gonna try to go if I'm in town. I've never been to either the lock and dam or to Klondike park yet, so I'm looking froward to both...

Dawn and I are planning on attending. Shawn & Susan may tag along in their '67. I'll talk it up on the www.aircooledmissouri.com forums as well as a couple of local vdubbers who are not online. My goal is to have my new 2.0L stuffed into the '73 westy for a good break in run by then.

I confirmed with Dave Corbin that the October cruise is this Sunday, October 25 starting at 9:00 am. The cruise will end at Klondike park in St. Charles. The cruise starts at 9:00 am at the Alton Lock and Dam (Melvin Price Lock and Dam).

Dave's weather forecast for Sunday is Sunny and 60 degrees.

Though not required, please e-mail me (stevewp@mac.com) to let me know if you are coming. I can look for you.

If you are running late that morning or want to know where I am - call or text me (636 579 9370).

If you are looking for exactly where the L&D is located, look at this website:

http://www.greatriverroad.com/Cities/EAlton/MelvinPrice.htm

The L&D is located on IL-143 (the Great River Road) south of the Clark Bridge between the communities of Alton and Wood River.

This means for St. Louis people to take 67 North from I-270 (Alton exit) and cross the Clark Bridge (its the yellow suspension bridge). Just after you cross the bridge, go south on i-143 and follow the Great River Road to the L&D.

Thanks to those who went along! I had a good time and will most likely do another one in the spring.

My wife's 71 KG and a very nice 57 bug were at the Klondike Park, but we couldn't find anyone else. Where was everyone?
stevewp on October 29 2009 16:46:51
We started at the Illinois site and cruised over to St. Charles and came down 94. There was a brief stop at DQ. I think we eventually got to Klondike location at 2:30 pm. I had sent out my cell phone on the mailing so someone could call me if they have questions, etc.

Does anyone have a "torque dude" tool (multiplies torque for removing and installing flywheel gland nut) that they can lend or rent to me for a couple of weeks?
