2009 Tour Planning Guide
Committee Members: Perry Lane, Kurt Lederer, Mike & Mary Ann O’Reilly, Steven Pautz, Mike Richardet
Framework:
a. Maximize Participation from Club Members
b. Not waste the time of the organizers
c. Create Visibility of VW’s and Gateway VW Club
d. Attract new members to club and keep existing users
Technical Sessions: (Mike Richardet)
Offer to help club members with cars to get problem cars going or heading in right direction.
Help the club can offer:
1. Review of existing cars
2. Book Library (share or photocopy pages)
3. Internet Research (assist with tools such as google or the samba.com)
4. Some mechanical ability (turning wrenches)
5. Guidance in selecting a shop (based on symptoms and budget)
6. Parts Connection (Help finding and locating parts)
Previous Examples: Pat Hoffman’s house, Al Shelton, Joe’s VW Salvage in Greenville IL
Get the car out and help - and going over. Obtain pictures of what is wrong ahead of time-going over by senior members.
Cruises (Mike & Mary Ann O’Reilly , Pat Buckley)
Meet at 10:30 - leave at 11:00 arrive at 12:00, eat lunch - then you are on your own afterwards. five lunch cruises - three Sundays - each Month, May thru October two Saturdays
Possible Destinations: Augusta Station, St. Charles, St. Louis Riverfront, The Hill,
Southside Restaurant, Soulard, Fenton, Kimmswick, Calvary Cemetery - Mary Ann would work as our private tour guide in October, Bellefontaine Cemetery
Further Destinations: Pere Marquette, Potosi, Gumbo Flats, St. Genevieve - hotel, go up to the Mississippi River and come back. - Brussels, IL - Whitman Hotel.

Eastershow (Forest Park) meet at History Museum (caravan) or at Denny’s first - just display show only - not competition - park as a group
Kirkwood Greentree show-one day Sunday-invite Illinois, KC Club, Missouri Micros
Mid America Motor Works Funfest-caravan to Effingham June 6-7 – Set up canopy and rest area
Metro VW Club Show
Other Shows Considered: Jour Defet - Kasaskia Island
Shows we go to as a group (up to individual members to coordinate between themselves)
Beetle Bob, Eureka Springs, St. Joseph, MO (Mo-Kan), Des Moines-too much energy-but not much output
Club is not ready to organize any overnight trips at this point

Labor Day weekend: caravan trip or overnighters - must check with Bill beforehand for special trip for day trip.
